Water Stress: Consumption vs. Water Abstractions

The water stress ratio compares a country's water demand to its available water abstractions. A high ratio signals potential water scarcity, stressing ecosystems and communities. It’s a key indicator of environmental and socio-economic risks.

To interact with the visualization, select a water use category from the dropdown, adjust the year with the slider, hover over countries to see their name and water stress ratio, and click on a country to view its water usage in each category within the selected year. You can also zoom in or out of the map using two fingers for a more detailed or broader view of the data.
